Robert Patten: Perpetual Curate of Allendale & 1715 Jacobite Rebellion – A talk by Professor Bill Purdue

Perhaps Allendale’s most famous resident, Robert Patten left his modest living as perpetual curate to join the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion. The lecture will examine Patten’s motives for participating in this risky venture, his role as chaplain and aide-de-camp to General Thomas Forster, his imprisonment after the Jacobite surrender, and his decision to give evidence against the leaders of the rebellion.

Entrance £5 (AVLHG Members £2.50)
