Dung Beetle Workshop

Join Darren Mann and Ceri Watkins, from the Dung beetle UK Mapping Project (DUMP), for this free one-day Cold-blooded and Spineless introductory course to learn about British dung beetles.

Dung beetles are important recyclers across the globe as they provide a range of valuable ecosystem services. In the UK, there are approximately 60 species within the Scarab group that are coprophagous (dung eating).

Topics covered will include lifecycles, ecology and conservation, sampling and survey methods, identification techniques, and how to submit dung beetle records.

During the afternoon there will be an opportunity to try out your new skills on a short field outing to hunt for dung beetles (weather permitting). Please ensure that you bring suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. This workshop is suitable for beginners with an interest in insect identification and recording.
