Broadwood Hall Wood Firing Group
We are a group of five potters who work together to fire our large fast fire kiln here at Broadwood Hall. Using old pallets for fuel, most firings take approx 10 to 12 hours and reach a temperature of about 1300 degrees centigrade. Working together we build a rhythm, alternately stoking the fire boxes as the temperature rises and the flames in the kiln change from orange red to a light yellow.
As a group we also offer kiln firing workshops and also hire out the kiln to visiting potters and students.
Pots in the Byre at Broadwood Hall
An exhibition is held each summer of ceramic work. This year a group of twelve potters from Northern England and Scotland are exhibiting their work. Work ranges from domestic ware to sculptural pieces
