Allen Smelt Mill Volunteers

Allen Smelt Mill was one of the principle lead smelting mills of the North Pennines throughout the 19th century.
Although much of the mill has been demolished there are still extensive remains, especially of the very complex flu system, ore storage and the infrastructure for the water power.
Much work has been done in recent years to reveal more of these features and consolidate them, this work is ongoing.
